Botox Approved for the Treatment of Migraine

29th July 2010

Botox Offers Relief to Migraine Sufferers

Botox has been approved by the UK Drug Regulators (MHRA) as a preventative treatment for chronic migraine. This comes after a study of over 1,300 people with migraine. Nearly 70% of sufferers had a 50% reduction in the number of migraine attacks. The results were published in May in the prestigious medical journal Headache and provide the best evidence so far  for the use of Botox for people with severe migraine.

Dr Gajraj of the Melbury Clinic stresses that Botox is only a last resort for people with severe chronic migraine. "These results indicate that people who experience migraine for at least 15 days in each month are likely to be helped. It is not a cure but it may provide much needed relief from a very disabling condition."
